Amit Gupta’s first feature, RESISTANCE, starred Andrea Riseborough and Michael Sheen and was released in the UK in November 2011. It was nominated for a Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Award for Best First Feature Film as well as for three Bafta Cymru Awards, winning one for Best Actress. The reviews were excellent:
Empire Magazine **** ’A beautiful, elliptical war film with the haunting qualities of a ghost story. Riseborough is terrific and Gupta proves he’s a talent to watch.’
Time Out **** ‘… a quietly confident feature that provokes thought about loyalties, humanity and sacrifice in a subtly fresh context… Loaded with tension, masterfully performed’
Moviescope **** ‘Gupta’s clarity of vision and directorial courage make this a striking debut.’
Amit is a former winner of the Royal Court Theatre Young Writers’ Competition. The New York Times called Campaign ‘…a dizzying, impeccably acted little exercise about an absurd scheme among British Foreign Office employees to recreate a chapter in Afghan history from the early 20th century for strategic purposes.’
Amit read History at university before completing his Masters at London’s Central School of Speech and Drama. He has been a Writer in Residence at the Leicester Haymarket Theatre and was profiled as one of Screen International’s Writer/Director “Stars of Tomorrow”.
